Defence investigations
Independent investigative activity aimed at identifying and preserving evidence relevant to the defence.
Criminal defence is not limited to reviewing prosecution evidence. Italian criminal procedure allows the defence to carry out its own investigative activity.
Defence investigations may include interviewing informed persons, obtaining documents, inspecting locations and coordinating authorised investigators or technical experts.
Defence work
- interviews with persons with relevant knowledge;
- document requests and acquisition;
- site inspections and factual verification;
- coordination with authorised private investigators;
- preservation and procedural use of evidence gathered by the defence.
Each matter is assessed on its own facts and documentation. Where specialist expertise is required, the defence is developed together with appropriately qualified technical consultants.
